From New York Fashion Week to Barnsley Fashion Week: Yorkshire is the real fashion capital says Fashion Show organiser

A Yorkshire fashion designer has returned to her roots to set up a fashion week in Barnsley which she hopes will contend with London, Paris and New York.

“There is so much talent here in Yorkshire with a whole community of independent designers, boutiques and budding stylists.

“But they’re often overlooked. Or new designers and stylists have to go to London, Paris and New York to get their opportunities. Well we want to change that and make Barnsley the new fashion capital,” said organiser Victoria Reddington.

36-year-old Victoria originally from Darfield who now lives in Wakefield exhibited her own designs at New York fashion week, decided to set up Barnsley fashion week  to support local talent and give up and coming designers from Barnsley college a boost as well as raising money for charity.

Victoria who runs sociability said: “My Dad runs Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club and I run Sociability Group. Along with our sponsors Clobber Swap we wanted to raise money for BIADS (Barnsley Dementia Support) and Marie Curie.

“So I came up with the idea of a local fashion week because I am so passionate about raising the profile of people in our area.

“I want to show how our Yorkshire heritage has inspired some of the best fashion out there.”

Barnsley Fashion Week will feature a week of online events culminating in a large fashion show at Metrodome arena featuring local designers, college students, celebrities, stalls and more.
