Great British Bake Off contestant Karen Wright (pictured) isteaming up with family-run business Writers Retreat in Beal, North Yorkshire, to host two informal afternoon workshops with lunch.

Baker, cook and Yorkshire lass Karen has recently published her first book, the beautifully illustrated Meals on the Move: A Campsite Cooking Journey, which chronicles the highs and lows of her life, and a motorhome tour across Europe complete with recipes.

Her workshops with Writers Retreat are as follows:

Saturday 25th November: Karen will take guests through the highs and lows of her journey and lead a short, informal journalling exercise. She’ll also share how she found the resilience to pursue her dreams while balancing numerous challenges.

Sunday 26th November: This workshop will feature insights from Karen on her life and her self-publishing journey, but centred around an exciting live cooking demonstration!

Both events feature a mouth-watering lunch featuring some of Karen’s signature dishes and plenty of time to chat, ask questions and purchase a signed copy of the book. She’s even agreed to bake her own scones!

Karen says: “I’m really excited to share my story at Writers Retreat’s beautiful venue. Get ready for a fabulous afternoon, complete with a mouth-watering lunch featuring some of my own signature dishes and plenty of time to chat, ask questions and get your book signed.

Writers Retreat founder Jan Birley says: Everyone is warmly welcomed to the Retreat and we can’t wait for Karen’s events. We warmly welcome people from all backgrounds, from published writers and well-known broadcasters through to beginners who want to give writing a go in a peaceful, supportive environment. We’re also solidifying our reputation as an excellent events venue as we’re very accessible yet surrounded by the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.

Jan, herself an established writer, set up Writers Retreat four years ago after being unable to find the kind of experience she was looking for. She has run the Retreat as a passion business ever since.

Tickets for the workshops, from 2-5pm on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 November, can be booked at https://writersretreatuk.co.uk/shop/
